Shingle Froe

Many traditional woodworking jobs require cants, blocks, or quartered logs to be riven with more precision and finesse than a maul and splitting wedge permit before the drawknife and spokeshave take over. Spoons, Windsor chair spindles, basket strips and the like come to mind, and that’s where the froe comes in. Drive it with a heavy wooden club, then use the long handle to “steer” and propel your cleft along the workpiece.  2″ x 15″ blade. 18″ handle.
